Quality of life, anxiety, depression, work and social stresses were not always concerns that providers thought to address as part of the comprehensive health care of patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). But thanks to pioneers like Eva Szigethy, MD, PhD, who has helped move psychological and behavioral care under the umbrella of IBD management, a growing number of hospitals and clinics now include a psychosocial component in their IBD patient care.
